I used to be a big time sushi lover, and I’m talking big. Rice rolls with salmon and cucumber, shredded
crab with rice wrapped in seaweed, the little rice balls with a raw piece of fish on top. I couldn’t get enough. That was until I had some of the worst sushi I’ll ever have.
I was pretty excited to try this new place, the name of which I could not pronounce. A buddy and I went in together and found our own place to sit down. It took about 10 minutes to get drinks to us. No big deal, I thought, it’s a new place. We ordered at that point and, I asked for 12 California Rolls while my buddy ordered a spicy dish that I don’t recall.
It didn’t take too long to get our food this time. I plopped a couple rolls in my mouth and chewed with no hesitation. I hadn’t had any bad sushi before, so why would I hesitate? I dug right in. I immediately grabbed my napkin and spat into it discreetly. My buddy just laughed and laughed the whole time thereafter. He told me his dish wasn’t that great, but it wasn’t bad. Mine was terrible, and not because of the wasabi sauce. We asked for the check, and I wasn’t surprised to see how pricey it was. Sushi tends to be around $15-$20. What did bother me, however, is the fact that the food was terrible. “Never again.” I told my friend. He just laughed.
Next morning I got a call from him saying he was up all night with diarrhea. My turn to laugh! In the end, though that restaurant had the last laugh. “Never again.” I reiterated in my head, and I’m sure my buddy was thinking the same thing. By far the worst sushi I have ever eaten.
