On an average we humans consume about 3000 calories a day between three meals and snacks. Have you ever sat down and thought about the types of foods you were putting into your body? Some things we eat are actually rather interesting and beneficial to us in more ways then one. These little items are commonly referred to as super foods.
Super foods are foods that have health benefiting or disease preventing abilities beyond just “being good” for you. One such super food is the goji berry. This popular little fruit is a bright red but has slight color alterations based on the climate it’s growing in and can take on a orange color as well. The goji berry is well renown for its strong nutrient value and more importantly its antioxidant abilities. It contains a staggering 18 essential amino acids and multiple essential vitamins and fatty acids. In countries where modern medicine is scarce herbalists use the goji berry as powerful component in healing concoctions. The nutrients contained inside the berry become more potent as the berry is sun dried and then mixed together with other herbs.
The goji berry is grown and maintained in north-central China where it’s dry in the winter and warm in the summer. Grown on large plantations, the wolf berry is nestled alongside the edge of China’s Yellow River where through the fertile soil gives the berries the quality that has earned themselves the name “red diamonds”. Another cool thing about the little red fruit is that it’s one of many berries celebrated during the summer berry festival essentially making the goji a trophy berry.
Many people practice diets to live a healthier life and the red diamond is used in many of these health boosters. For people with diabetes it comes as a high recommendation from health gurus to be consumed daily a couple times a week because it can lower blood pressure. This also make it useful for people with high blood pressure, kids that have a cold or fever, adults with fevers, and some old age eye problems. If you are generally a healthy person then hey, the goji berry can help you out too. Studies have shown that these little guys have been known to provide benefits to athletic performance, keep people calmer, and even give you a higher quality sleep. Food can do some amazing things and we don’t know about every food we consume but some of them are truly helpful to our daily living. Makes you wonder doesn’t it?
