When the four coaches of The Voice: Season 6 are together, they can’t seem to stop bickering like old friends. While they are so drastically different when it comes to the direction of their musical career, they have all been tremendously successful. This combination of Adam Levine, Blake Shelton, Shakira, and Usher as competing coaches is therefore particularly compelling as we watch some of the best singers of our generation battle it out for the victory.
This season of The Voice, Adam Levine is confident that he will yet again be the coach of the winning contestant. Adam is an experienced coach, and he holds his team to extremely high standards by constantly challenging them to try new things. He has also been very strategic in shaping his team this season. He has selected contestants who are not only unique, interesting singers but also have a knack for captivating the audience. The contestants on his team are true performers who can use their contagious spirit to win over the crowd.
Blake Shelton knows how to select contestants that he particularly can help grow and develop. He is fully aware of the niche he represents in the show, and he plays to his expertise. Unlike Usher, who is looking for already perfect singers, Blake seems more focused on the journey. He has chosen great singers for his team who have the potential to be even greater with his help. I believe Blake will be a great mentor to his team as he explores their natural talent, and brings it to a whole new level.
As the only female coach of The Voice: Season 6, Shakira is struggling to make a name for herself. While the other three coaches do not see Shakira as a threat, she is quickly learning how to play the game. In the first round of choosing singers, many contestants were lured in by Adam Levine and Blake Shelton. They thought Adam and Blake were much safer choices since they are experienced coaches on The Voice, and have produced winners in the past. Few contestants wanted to take their chance with Shakira–the less experienced coach who believed in their talent. For this reason, the “stealing” round of The Voice played in Shakira’s favor. While Adam had no choice but to drop one of his most talented singers, Shakira was quick to steal him. Patrick Thomson shows real promise, and this addition to Shakira’s team has given it the extra boost it needed.
In my opinion, Team Usher is the team to look out for in Season 6. Although Usher is one of the less experienced coaches on The Voice, he has a real ear for talent and the patience to discover it. While the other coaches make spontaneous decisions, Usher will sit through the majority of a song calculating, thinking, and analyzing every aspect of the performance. He is extremely strategic in every move he makes, and has created a very diverse team that embodies a variety of genres and styles. Usher was also lucky enough to snatch contestant Bria Kelly who I believe could win the competition with her unique, jaw-dropping talent.
