Product Description: The Veggetti promises to be a fast and easy way to turn vegetables into vegetable spaghetti. I purchased mine at Walgreen’s for $14.99 this past week.
Review: My wife and I saw this particular product advertised on television a couple weeks ago and thought it looked interesting. After all, we are always trying to eat healthy and weren’t opposed to replacing our normal spaghetti pasta with a vegetable one. That’s why, when I saw this at Walgreen’s this past weekend, I decided to pick it up. After using it, however, my opinion of it is mixed.
As is the case with a lot of products, this particular kitchen tool didn’t quite live up to the hype. My wife and I were interested in making a vegetable pasta with this and tried it out on a cucumber, carrot and yam (I wanted to try zucchini but, as luck would have it, none of our stores were carrying it). The cucumber worked out pretty well and the pasta-like strands were very similar to what we saw advertised however, the sweet potato didn’t work as well and we couldn’t even use the carrot because it was just too small. In fact, I’m not really sure where we can even purchase carrots that are large enough to work in this particular slicer.
We also discovered the vegetable spaghetti doesn’t cook quite as well as described in the instructions. Our cucumber pasta broke apart while cooking and, ultimately, our attempt resulted in us having mixed vegetables that looked nothing like pasta.
Despite our overall disappointment, I do see some potential for this particular product. Before they fell apart during the cooking process, our cucumber strands looked pretty neat and would have been a nice addition to any salad and I’m sure that would also be the case with carrots too, assuming I could ever find some that are large enough.
In addition, as I told my wife, this might actually work pretty well when I’m able to get some zucchini out of my garden and want to freeze it. Though, in all honesty, I won’t know that for sure until I actually have an opportunity to try it.
Final Opinion: I still see some potential for this particular kitchen gadget and, because of that, decided not to return it. However, I don’t feel it is as good as advertised and would recommend not buying it unless you can find it on sale.
