Readings (John 4v49-54)
“The nobleman said unto him, Sir come down ere my child die. Jesus saith unto him , Go thy way; thy son liveth. And the man believed the word that Jesus had spoken unto him, and he went his way. And as he was now going down, his servants met him, and told him, saying, Thy son liveth. Then inquired he of them the hour when he began to amend. And they said unto him, yesterday at the seventh hour the fever left him. So the father knew that it was at the same hour, in the which, Jesus said unto him, Thy son liveth: and himself believed, and his whole house. This is again the second miracle that Jesus did, when he was come out of Judea into Galilee”.
In today’s changing world, there are so many things happening around us. We all understand that the world keeps changing around us. The most fundamental thing is that we be able to adapt to that ever changing world, if we are to survive. However, the word declared by God will not change. It applies in all worlds. In fact the bible says heaven and earth may pass away but the word of God will remain forever. God also says in Isaiah 55v10, as the rain comes down from heaven unto the earth and return not thither, so shall my word be which I have sent unto you, it will not return unto me void but shall accomplish every purpose which I have sent it for.
Here is a mystery, a man’s child was affected by fever to the point of death. Circumstances shows that in that day and era, medical facilities were limited and if there was no form of intervention, the child was going to die. Like anyone in that situation, the father started to run around. Thanks be to God he ran to Jesus to tell his story. We should all understand that these moments of madness/discomfort will always come to our lives, but what matters most is where you will run to when that happens. If it was some of us, we could have run to the soothsayers, witch-doctors and/or idol gods, among others, but this man ran to Jesus. Let me however take this opportunity to encourage everyone to run to Jesus when these moments come. Like Job we should learn to declare that our redeemer liveth and we go forward in His covenant. God will always honour his word if we stand by it.
Jesus spoke a word and said to the nobleman, go thy way for thy son liveth and the man believed the word. The son was healed immediately and he began to amend. You may be in the same situation this day. May be the following are dying in your life and affairs;
- Health and personal live;
- Decline in business;
- Work relations, etc
Understand that this is your seventh hour of the day. God brings this word into your life because he wants your life and personal affairs to be healed from “fever” so as for you to live. Jesus has carried our grief and sorrows at the cross that we may be healed. He was mocked and He wore a crown of thorns that we may be delivered and healed from poverty. That many people are poor is a condition of fever put across by the enemy. Our God is able to make grace abound in our lives and affairs and to cause us to be rich. He owns the silver and the gold and He owns cattle on a thousand hills. In addition, He is the one who gives us the power to get wealth. So in our getting, we should also get wealth.
The word has been given already, it will not be effective if we do not embrace it through faith. The moment the father believed in the word, the child was healed. In Hebrews 4, Paul says “they received the same word as we did, but the word did not benefit them because it was not mixed with faith”. Even as you read, let you spiritual antennas be ignited for you to hear and believe, if the word is to be fruitful in your life. Faith is the greatest ingredient we need in our Christian walk, for without it we will have zero mysteries of God in our lives.
