Anger and holding grudges is usually associated with bitterness. If not dealt with, it can take a deep root in the heart. Bitterness is the result of a hurt, whether intentional or unintentional, caused by a situation in a person’s life that is planted in their heart. Sometimes people can hurt someone without realizing it.
The sad fact is that many people in the world are bitter because they have not dealt with an old hurt. A bitter person is usually very critical, easily try and find fault in people, and always find ways to justify why they feel a certain way. Unfortunately, you can’t easily see bitterness in a person because they can easily hide it. Hardly ever will you find someone that will just admit that they are a bitter person. Sometimes they will go as far as to deny that they are bitter.
If a person continue to allow bitterness to fester, it will affect them physically, emotionally, and spiritually. People that are very bitter have a lot of hatred in their hearts. They usually have more mental health troubles as well. Discontentment and resentment begin to grow more and more in their life until it begins to affect everything around them. This is why it is so very important to catch bitterness at the very beginning before it takes root in your life.
It is never right to respond in bitterness when a person has wronged you. Before you allow bitterness to enter your heart, it is best to quickly forgive the person. It is so worth it when you forgive. When you forgive someone, you will see that it really sets you free from the person. You will find that you will become more joyful and your life will be filled with so much more happiness.
