Memorial Day can be a day many people look forward to in anticipation of the delicious BBQ that is to be served on that day, but for the select few who are tasked with the responsibility of actually preparing the meals for that day, Memorial Day could end up being a hassle. That is why I have taken the time to introduce some of the best Memorial Day recipes that are truly amazing, yet also hassle-free.
Just because it’s a BBQ recipe, it doesn’t mean it always has to entail meat. Many other types of food like seafood and even vegetables taste wonderful when put on the grill. Here’s 3 recipes to try out on this year’s Memorial Day:
1. Buttered Cornstalks
Ingredients: Cornstalk(s), butter.
This is such a simple recipe yet it is the perfect recipe to complement whatever meat dish that will be served on that day. Quite simply, just place the cornstalks on the grill and when cut thin slices of butter to place on top of each cornstalk. Make sure to roll the cornstalk so that butter is spread even all around the cornstalk. Even by itself, buttered cornstalks are so addicting but they’re even better when paired with meat.
2. Avocado Burger
Ingredients: Ground beef, American cheese, avocado, jalapeno peppers, tomatoes, hamburger buns.
What would an all-American holiday like Memorial’s Day be like without an American classic? Except this time, we’re adding a little twist to the classic cheese burger and instead of lettuce and pickles, we’ll be adding avocados and roasted jalapeno peppers. First, slice your tomatoes into thin slices apt for placing on top of a beef patty. Next, place the jalapeno peppers and the ground beef on the grill. Cook the peppers until they’re very slightly burnt and roasted. You can cook the beef medium-rare or whichever way you like it. When the beef is almost 90% cooked, place the cheese on top of patty. When the cheese is semi-melted, place the patty on your hamburger buns and add the rest of the ingredients (tomatoes, peppers, avocado) onto the bun.
3. Lettuce-wrapped Pork Belly
Ingredients: Thinly-sliced pork belly, lettuce, miso, red-pepper paste, garlic cloves.
Mix two tablespoons of red-pepper paste and one tablespoon of miso. Next, crush some garlic cloves into fine pieces. The amount of the garlic to use is up to you depending on how much you love garlic. Mix the garlic with the paste mixture and set aside. Next, place the pork belly slices onto the grill. Be careful not to burn the pork belly slices as they will cook very quickly due to their thinness. You should haven’t to spend more than 3-4 minutes cooking each slice. While the meat is cooking, separate the lettuce into singular leaves. When the meat is done, simply place each pork belly slice onto the lettuce and then wrap it up into a small roll. Dip the roll into the paste mixture and serve.
As you may have noticed, these three recipes take very little work to prepare and hence they are not only tasty, but also ideal for serving to a large number of people which is usually the case during Memorial’s Day.
