There are many electronic pedometers out there for the consumer. Factors to weigh are accuracy, mobile compatibility, stylishness, and all-weather usage. The Fitbit Flex meets all of these conditions and is the one I highly recommend to purchase for improving your health.
After comparing many models of electronic pedometers (even those among the Fitbit categories), I decided to buy the Fitbit Flex. This wearable wristband suited my lifestyle. The default color is black but other types of colors can be purchased as well. The Flex has the tracker device conveniently hidden under the band. The package comes with a USB charger and a full charge lasts just under 2 hours. After charging, I placed the tracker back in the wristband and proceeded to install the software which is available as a free download from the website. Setup was a breeze and within minutes, my tracker was synced up with the Fitbit application. In addition, there’s a Fitbit app for both iOS and Android so sync can happen on the go as well.
So, what does the Fitbit Flex track? Steps throughout the day, distance traveled, calories consumed (manually entered), and even sleep patterns. The software allows setup of the baseline goal (I set as 10K steps a day) and LED lights on the wristband indicate progress. Each light represents 20% of the goal so in my setup, 4 lights would mean 8000 steps. After meeting your goal, the wristband vibrates and flashes basically indicating congrats which is also conveyed by the software and mobile app versions of Fitbit. Monitoring sleep patterns is another bonus with this device. Tapping the wristband multiple times will put in sleep mode where the Flex will track amount of sleep and periods of restlessness.
The other benefit of this model is it’s water resistant. I’ve worn in the shower many times without problems (I wouldn’t try swimming with it though). The Flex allows sharing data with friends and family so friendly competitions can take place. All in all, a nifty device that costs only $99, offers many features, and promotes health! Can’t beat that!!!
