I don’t know about you, but I like to save money. One of the best ways to do that is to compare prices of brand name food against the prices of store brand food. Walmart has their own line called Great Value. Meijer’s also has their own line. Most all of the grocery stores do this now.
Many people opt for the generic brands, as they can be called, because the prices are almost always lower, sometimes as much as 20% in many cases. We like that because the price of groceries can be outrageous for most of the year.
As expensive as many things are now, store brands are becoming front and center in most of the country.
A good example would be potato chips. A bag of Lays or Jays chips can run you over $3.29 per bag or higher. I can get the store brand for $2.50 or even $2.00 when they are on sale. They taste just as good as the popular chips.
I realize a lot of people think the generic brands may not taste the same, but in my experience this has not been the case. I also used to think that way, but I was tired of paying so much for my groceries. I know now that I was paying for the name of the brand and not the product itself. I hope that makes sense to you.
It’s like when you buy a pair of Levi jeans instead of the Kmart brand. The Kmart brand is just as good but cheaper. You pay more for the Levi jeans because they are the Levi jeans. I don’t think we should pay attention to who makes the product. The quality is what we should be more concerned about.
Also, I prefer the taste of the Spartan brand frozen fish a lot more than the national brands like Gorton’s. It all depends on if you like it or not.
So go to the store and give the generic brands a try. Don’t have any preconceived ideas that just because it’s not what you are used to it won’t taste wonderful.
If you want to save money, this is the way to go. You will be happy when you add up how much you can save in a year!
