Growing up, my mother would sometimes talk about soothing her muscles in a hot bath filled with epsom salts. I never gave it too much thought, but it sounded odd to me to sit in a tub of warm water laced with salt and hope that it would somehow make a difference in your body. As the years passed and I grew older, I found myself especially sore one day after working in the garden, and I saw a bag of epsom salts at the store. I remembered my mother’s wise words, so I bought the bag. Once I brought it home, poured an acceptable amount into my tub and filled it with water, I let my body slide into the soothing warmth. I read a book and relaxed for about 25 minutes in its steamy heat. Upon existing the bath I went to bed and had one of the best sleeps of my life. I was officially hooked on epsom salts. I wanted to learn everything that I could about the magic crystals that had soothed my aching body and helped me sleep soundly.
Epsom salt — the official name is pure magnesium sulfate. It was first mind from a spring at Epsom in Surrey England. It is readily absorbed thru the skin and quickly produces serotonin, which helps relax and elevate the mood. It also brings a feeling of calmness.
Besides easing body aches, it also helps deodorize and soften skin. My feet have never felt smoother. No more rough spots. It has been prescribed as an effective treatment for the dreaded athlete’s foot.
Epsom salts may even prevent heart disease and strokes by making the bodies arteries more pliable and preventing blood from clotting. It also helps the body regulate insulin which aids in diabetes prevention or treatment.

It is also an ideal fertilizer for house plants, shrubs and trees, which all benefit from the absorbation of magnesium sulfate. Whens spread across a lawn, it will help green up the grass.
Epsom salt has become a staple at my house. I use it for a multitude of things and cannot imagine life without it.
