Rock music once dominated the FM airways. You couldn’t be a red blooded rebellious American teenager with out rocking out to the bands of your era. From the Beatles to Nirvana rock music dominated the pop music scene. Rock music is no longer a definitive part of adolescent life, but it is still around, you just have to listen a little harder.
If you still want your music to sound like it is out f 1972 then yea, you are probably out of luck. The landscape of Rock music has changed. Just because new Rock music doesn’t mean it is any less important. It is however harder to find. If you want to hear the newest in Rock music you have to find it were new music is. You probably already know that MTV doesn’t play a lick of rock music these days. And no matter what you think VH1 classic isn’t hip.
To find the newest music you have to look where the kids look. Modern musicians are all over the web. You have to dig a little and find websites that feature young up and coming musicians. There are some great sites out there. This isn’t an ad so I won’t name them for you. Besides, part of the fun is in finding it for yourself. Remember the fun of being the first kid in your group with that awesome album, tape, cd? That’s how it works still, but now you are looking for that hip indie band streaming somewhere your friends haven’t looked yet.
Also don’t be afraid to look for great music videos online. That’s right, music videos still exist. You might even find that you like them. Today’s music videos are a far cry from the huge budget epics of the 90’s. While this may make some forms of video look stale, it is perfect for rock music. You may find the homemade videos of today look a lot more the videos you remember for your childhood than you would think.
Don’t give up on rock and roll. Its still out there. Kids today still have that same spirit as we did growing up. It just looks a little different. When you think about it, it might even being a truer form of rock than what some of us had. Rock music should be underground. It should be for the rebels. It shouldn’t be in everyone’s face. It shouldn’t be pop music masking around as rock. Rock is right were it belongs.
