Many people believe that once you reach a certain age that change is not possible. This belief extends to how people view and think about others. This is an over generalization that needs to be addressed over and over again until people understand that the truth about personality changes. The key thing that people must understand is that anyone can change they just have to put in the effort and time to make the changes that they want.
Why are people so against the idea that people can change? I have found in my personal life that as I began to instill changes in myself and accept those changes there are those around me who attempt to refuse to accept the changes. After deep consideration I have come to the conclusion that for these people change in myself changes our interactions which means they must change. This is difficult for people because they have developed a pattern and it is easier to keep the pattern that they have become comfortable with.
This idea that people cannot change only serves people who like to keep the status quo, they see change as a threat to their reality. It is easier to think of a person as being one way and that is it. This is the reason why people hold on to anger, ideas of superiority, racism, sexism, and other noxious ideas and thought patterns. This concept can be witnessed in the media especially when referring to different countries. In the media you would get the sense that all the people of a country have a single mentality and that these things will never change. This dangerous assumptions leads to the dehumanizing of people in order to ease one’s thinking process. If people or a person only possess one aspect that you have to acknowledge then no real thought or feelings go into interacting.
The point I want you to take from this is that when you are trying to change, once you accept that you can change and be the person that you want to be the biggest hurdles in life will be the people closest to you followed by people in society with limited views. Do not let anybody define who you are as this only serves the person defining. To see the truth in this statement just attempt to define the definer and watch the resistance he or she puts forward and then understand, that is the resistance you need to possess when someone else attempts to define who you are.
