As we’re growing up, we all get caught up in the cravings of junk food, and we all know why. They’re delicious, satisfying, and for some of us, gives us a source of comfort. I’m not just talking about cookies and chips. Junk food can be anything like pizzas, cheese burgers, and anything that’s from a fast food restaurant. Eating some pizza or a burger once in awhile isn’t going to kill you. The problem is constant consumption, and how it can effect your body overall.
What It Contains:
To understand what the constant consumption of junk can do to your overall health, it’s important to know what it contains. Knowing some of the ingredients that is put inside your favorite foods can help you determine how often you can get away with eating it, or if you shouldn’t eat it at all.
Most junk foods are loaded with saturated fats, lots of calories and sodium, preservatives, and a lot of other chemical ingredients that we can’t even pronounce. Many of these chemical ingredients are carcinogenic, meaning they have cancer causing agents in them. Ever wonder why so many nutritionists, and health enthusiasts stress the importance of natural ingredients so much? This is why.
Most companies who create these products that we love so much do it for the purpose of making money. They don’t care about your health. So it’s very important that you cut out most, if not all, junk food from your diet and begin eating clean. It’s also a good idea to read the nutrition panel and ingredients of everything you buy at the supermarket. It may be a little time consuming, but when it comes to your health, it’s worth it. Now granted, it’s okay to have a guilty pleasure every once in awhile. No one says that eating a cookie here, or a slice of pizza there, is going to give you diabetes. But it’s important to make sure that these foods aren’t the center of your eating habits.
Being that none of these types of foods contain no vitamins or minerals, they don’t contribute to your health in any way. When you look at it from that perspective, why would you want to eat junk food all the time?
Most of us are familiar with many of the ill effects of too much junk food. The problem is, most don’t seem to care, or are simply too addicted to stop eating them. This is what causes weight gain/obesity, heart disease, and diabetes. In turn, these things will start a chain effect that causes constant hunger and dependency, lack of energy, laziness, and even stroke. I mentioned stroke because the constant consumption of junk food that causes weight gain can easily decrease your oxygen levels in your blood stream, which can lead to stroke. A stroke occurs because there’s not enough oxygen going to your brain. Eating too much junk food causes lack of focus as well.
These are the basic effects that most of us are aware of. The worse part of eating so much junk food is cancer. Being that there are many carcinogenic ingredients in junk food, eating it constantly throughout your whole life can cause you to end up with cancer of some kind. This can even occur when you’re not constantly eating junk food also.
Simple things that you buy from the store has cancer causing agents in them, like a loaf of bread. Be sure to read what’s inside that bread and consider buying bread with more natural ingredients in it. Sometimes people end up with cancer by simply buying regular everyday products without realizing those products have cancer causing ingredients in them. This is why it’s so important to read the nutrition information on everything you buy. If you have to do some research online, do so. And if you can afford it, go organic. Do your research on that as well. Just because something is labeled “organic” doesn’t mean it’s automatically healthy, and vice versa. Research is always important when it comes to your health. Stay healthy.
To help counter some of the junk food phenomenon, you can start by making the things you love at home, but with a healthy twist. Instead of using refined sugar to sweeten something, you can use natural sugars, such as pure maple syrup, raw honey, raw sugar, and even agave nectar. You don’t have to go crazy and make everything at home, but making some things at home, even your favorite snacks with those healthy tips in mind, can make a world of difference. Doing so will keep you on the right track with your nutrition and it’ll also help satisfy your sweet tooth without the guilt of eating something unhealthy that comes from the store.
