Teachers, your moment is now. The Great Florida Teach-In (2014) returns to The Tampa Convention Center on Tuesday, June 24th. Securing a teaching position before this event would be a sweet achievement, but realistically, the majority of hiring occurs at The Great Florida Teach-In. Every year school districts from across the state of Florida send ambassadors in the person of principals, vice-principals, human resources specialists and the like, to conduct face-to-face interviews with candidates at this all-encompassing job fair. If you are looking to secure an appointment as a teacher in the state of Florida for this upcoming 2014-2015 school year, attending The Great Florida Teach-In is arguably the best choice you can make.
How to Dress for a Teaching Interview
A job interview will be given to any and all teachers whose credentials match the desired qualifications of the representative sent to this teachers’ job fair. Not to sound grandfatherly, but it is imperative (especially for the younger candidates) that job seekers dress for success (cliché but necessary). Gentlemen should wear a suit and tie with a freshly pressed shirt. Essentially, match your apparel. Ladies should dress formally and avoid high heels because standing in line for hours could become potentially uncomfortable.
When Should I Arrive for the Job Fair?
You are reading correctly teachers; The Great Florida Teach-In will become extremely crowded. Arrive at least half-an-hour early. If you are not situated in the greater Tampa area, it may be best to stay in a hotel. By the event’s starting time (8:30), the line of teachers will wrap around the Convention Center. The Great Florida Teach-In in many ways follows the proverbial “the early bird catches the worm” philosophy. Hiring managers will begin scheduling interviews for teaching vacancies the instant the doors open. If you should casually meander into the Convention Center hours late, the chances are you will no longer have the opportunity to interview for a desirable teaching position in your area of certification or geographical location.
Interview Questions for Teachers
The Great Florida Teach-In is not some informal meet and greet. A large percentage of Florida’s annual education hiring occurs at this event. Therefore, it is important to be well-practiced in the art of answering interview questions. Interviewers will ask both industry standard questions and questions about your personality and experience. What these clever job auditioners want to find out is how you have resolved difficult situations, your policies on grading under a range of circumstances, your willingness to teach a variety of classes, and your degree of passion for working with adolescents. It is important to be personable yet not too familiar. Remember that hiring managers are looking for talented, passionate, and reputable instructors to replenish their ranks.
The Great Florida Teach-In 2014
Most of the hiring in Florida education will occur before or during this event. If you are unable to secure employment at The Great Florida Teach-In 2014, do not despair. Throughout the course of the summer, many teachers will opt-out of their contracts, and health and family complications can lead to new and attractive vacancies. Just like you would advise your students for an event of this magnitude, and no pun intended, Bring Your A Game!
