Kinsale, Ireland, is not only a beautiful harbor town, but it is rightfully known as the food capital of Ireland. The colorful little city offers a wide variety of food with over 60 pubs, restaurants, and cafes lining the streets. With so much to choose from, it’s easy to be overwhelmed, so here are four places not to miss when eating in Kinsale.
1. Dino’s Restaurant
This family restaurant is conveniently located right in the center of town, with beautiful views of the harbor. Dino’s offers a nice nautical themed dining room, several outside tables, and also a chipper (take-away counter). The restaurant is known for its fish and chips, and rightfully so- they are the best in town. Dino’s also offers other tasty seafood options, as well as meat and vegetarian dishes for land lovers. Prices are very moderate, averaging around €10-15 for a full meal. The restaurant also offers several options for two or three course meal deals, and they are really worth it. If you save room for dessert, try the banoffee pie- you won’t regret it!
2. The Lemon Leaf Cafe
If you’re looking for a light lunch or to sit and enjoy a pot of tea, Lemon Leaf is your place. The cafe is very large and welcoming, and even offers seats outside in a beautiful garden at the back. Everything they serve is produced naturally and locally, and is therefore very fresh and healthy. The poached chicken sandwich is delicious and unique, and paired with any of the homemade soups it makes for a perfect lunch. All of the desserts are baked in house and tantalize you from their display, making it hard to leave without ordering a freshly baked dessert. Prices are very reasonable, averaging around €5-10 for lunch.
3. The White Lady
The White Lady is a lady of all trades- offering a bar, restaurant, night club, and hotel all under one roof. If you are looking for a night of fine dining, The White Lady restaurant will prove satisfying. If you are looking for a more casual meal, food is also served at the pub down the hall. The menu has some Asian influences, making it stand out from other restaurants in the area. The Thai green chicken curry and chicken stir fry are delicious, but the menu also offers many types of food including seafood, pasta dishes, hearty meat dishes, and pizzas. A nice dinner at The White Lady averages around €15-20. Bring your dancing shoes and head upstairs after dinner for a night of dancing with live music or local DJs every Friday, Saturday, and Sunday night.
4. The Bulman
Saving the best for last- The Bulman is far and away the best pub in Kinsale with its traditional decor, selection of beers and foods, and friendly staff. The bright orange traditional pub is located on the outskirts of the city, near Charles Fort, offering breathtaking views back onto Kinsale’s harbor. On warm days, patrons can be found eating and drinking outside on the stone wall, enjoying the views. On cold days, everyone will be enjoying the live music and comfortable atmosphere by the fire. The Bulman offers food in the pub downstairs, or for a quieter sit down meal, customers can dine at the restaurant upstairs. Seafood is the main focus at this seaside restaurant, and the fried calamari appetizer with garlic mayo is to die for. An extensive specials board is also updated daily. Meals average around €15-20, very reasonably priced for the quality.
