I was a huge fan of The Following the first season. It was one of those shows that was so good I did not think it would be back a second season, since networks tend to get rid of anything worth watching. I have been enjoying the cult leader, Joe’s escape and getting involved in a new cult and slowly taking it over in his way with his own people. With the introduction of a preacher character targeting Joe I’m a bit concerned they may be veering into True Blood territory, when there was a minister after the vampire population. There was even a reference to a “Holy war”.
Kevin Bacon character and acting is always top notch and first class, but I can’t stop humming the theme to Footloose, a lot. The actor who portrays the cult leader Joe is perfectly cast, as is the supporting cast. The music score for each episode is always spot on. The production value has stayed consistent into the second season as well. I was concerned, sometimes with these shows they get a bit sloppy when they become successful. Something that bothers me is when actresses come back for the following (play on words intended) season and they’ve had so much plastic surgery you have to be reminded who they are, such is the case here, but I won’t name anyone in particular.
Anytime a show starts borrowing from another show it needs to do it better, and as great as The Following is, it’s on network television and does not have the budget, nor the clout as a channel like HBO, so the addition to the news reporter to The Following also bothers me a little also.
I sincerely hope the show sticks to what it does best. It started out as an original and I hope it does not turn into a copy, or it may very well lose its following.
