This season of The Voice both the competitive nature of the coaches and the talent of the contestants are at an all time high. While veteran coaches, Blake Shelton and Adam Levine, have not yet lost a singer from their live team, Shakira and Usher are now desperately holding on to their last singer. These two less experienced coaches on The Voice appear to be no match to the more experienced coaches of the show. Although the fate of Team Shakira and Team Usher may look grim, do not be fooled by the numbers. These two coaches have kept their secret weapons on their teams. Kristen Merlin from Team Shakira and Josh Kaufman from Team Usher may have exactly what they need to compete with the full teams of Team Blake and Team Adam. These two singers both have nearly flawless pitch and a soulful, genuine sound that may just continue to win over the audience until the very end.
Kristen Merlin-Team Shakira
While Kristen Merlin may not have the most unique voice, due to her striking similarity to Sugarland’s Jennifer Nettles, her voice is nearly pitch perfect, precise, and genuine. So far throughout this competition she has put on quality performance after quality performance, despite minor setbacks such as her microphone turning off. Kristen Merlin also has a modest and appreciative attitude that has won over the coaches and the audience. She is a singer that embodies what country music truly is–a soulful, genuine voice telling a universal story about the human experience. Country music is currently on an upward rise in popularity, and the music industry would be quick to embrace a new, authentic country singer like Kristen Merlin.
Joshua Kaufman- Team Usher
Joshua Kaufman has a smooth, soulful tone that continues to shock and impress the audience. He is incredibly talented, and has a voice unlike anyone else in the music industry today. While most of the other contestants on the show have had both good and bad performances, Josh consistently gives his best every single time.
