Male or female? Teens to seniors? Who are you specifically trying to target with your blog? Do not make the mistake of trying to appeal to everyone. The most successful blogs are ones that target a specific audience. Determine who your audience is before marketing your business. You can save an enormous amount of time if you determine this first. Here are three ways to determine your target market.
1. Who has the problems you are trying to solve? The easiest way to find your target market is to find the people who have the problems that need your solutions. These people want to know what they can do to remedy the challenges they are presently facing. It doesn’t have to be problems either. They will also gravitate toward their pleasures or things they wish they could do. Speaking specifically to travel blogging, their problem in that case is the need to satisfy a dream through your blog. You provide them with an escape from their everyday life.
2. Who seems to be interested in it? The single mom? The married dad? Twenty-something’s looking to travel before settling down? There can be many similarities among all kinds of different people who love to travel. Some can afford to travel often while others can only afford to read your blog and dream about it. All of them can benefit from your experiences. They want to experience what you have experienced and in absence of being able to do so, they will look to you to provide that for them. There are others who can afford to go but will look to your blog to help them research places to visit.
3. Don’t overlook demographics. Determining who you want to target with your blog you must consider who would enjoy it. Are you a single parent who writes from your perspective while on vacation? Are you a young person who is backpacking through Europe and recording your travels? Who do you think your blog would attract? Usually, the perspective that you write from attracts the same kind of people. It is important to consciously write this down. Notice the direction your blog posts go. What do they talk about most? There are clues right there that you can use to determine your market.
Remember above all else to keep your focus targeted to the specific group that likes travel blogs. That’s the audience you want to appeal to because that is your captive audience. They are the ones who will be interested in what you have to say.
