For two summers, I’ve been wearing this full piece bathing suit that I wore when I was pregnant. Needless to say, it’s old, stretched out and outdated. Thus, I decided to go swimsuit shopping. While I was there, I was able to see all of the new swimsuits for summer. If you’re looking to stay on-trend this season, here are some of the best swimsuit trends for 2014.
Fringe, Flounce, Flutter
Fringe will still be popular for summer 2014. In addition, there are also plenty of flutter and flounce bikini tops in stores. These may have crochet trim, ruffles and laser cutouts. Fringe lovers may like this Hula Honey Fringe Bandeau tankini top. It comes in a multitude of colors and gives some extra coverage in the stomach area. I also like this cute flounce bikini top from Body Glove. It would look great with a basic black bottom. You can find most of these styles in tankinis, bikinis and one-pieces.
Long Line Bikinis
Victoria’s Secret lists long line bikinis as one of their top trends on their swimsuit Trend Report. This style features a “longer” silhouette which typically has more fabric than your average bikini. This is great for those who don’t like skimpy bikinis. Balconets and crop tops are both part of this trend. Try this long line triangle top from Victoria’s Secret.
Rash Guard Tops
Rash guard tops are another item on Victoria’s Secret Trend report. There are a lot of cropped rash guards, like this Spring Fling long sleeve top from Roxy, popping up in stores. However, if you want more coverage, a full length polka dot rashguard would look nice with your board shorts or swimsuit. The rash guard trend is great for women who surf, have fuller figures or simply like to look a little more conservative.
Lots of Straps
This swimsuit season, straps won’t only be going up, down and across. They are going every which way. Many of the new one-piece swimsuits have unexpected straps in the back. It adds something extra to basic swimsuits. Check out this black Saha Aruma cross back one-piece with colorful straps in the back.
Beads and Hardware
Accents like beads, jewels and metal hardware are also supposed to be popular this summer! For those who like the hardware accents, you might want to try on this H&M studded bikini top with a metal fastener in the back. You can pair this with plain black bottoms or the matching studded version. To satisfy this trend, you may also want to try embroidery or intricate patterns in rich colors.
These 2014 swimsuit trends will have you looking great at the beach, at the lake or poolside!
