Entertaining a 6-year old can sometimes be challenging, and with summer vacation around the corner, I’m going to have to pull all tricks out of my hat. Luckily, Corona, CA has some nice playgrounds that can provide hours of entertainment for kids. After visiting most of the playgrounds, both me and my son found that some really stood out from the rest and are definitely worth a visit.
El Cerrito Park
(7500 El Cerrito Road, Corona, CA 92881)
This fairly new sport complex houses a playground area for kids up to the age of 12. There are two play structures; one for the younger kids, with several small slides, and one for the older kids, with a fireman’s pole, rock-climbing wall and large slides. The playground has sun protection and its pavement is covered with rubber flooring, making for extra safe play time. Next to the playground is a large picnic area with tables and grills. The area is covered, so during hot summer weather, you can still stay cool. Restrooms are available on-site as is parking. There’s also a nearby soccer field, basketball court and baseball courts, where you can watch a game or play one yourself.
Dos Lagos Playground
(2780 Cabot Drive, Corona, CA 92883)
Also fairly new is the playground area in the heart of the Dos Lagos shopping center right near the scenic fountain. This fully covered playground, which has rubber flooring, is geared toward younger kids. It has a seesaw, spinning cups, small slides and several climbing structures. Right outside of the playground is a splash area where younger and older kids can run through the water as it splashes out of the ground. Restrooms are on-site as is parking. Although there are benches and sitting areas in and around the playground, there aren’t any picnic tables.
(1250 Santana Way, Corona, CA 92881)
Located in the middle of a grassy area, the playground at Citrus Park is ideal for birthday parties. This park has two climbing structures; one for younger kids with a small slide, and one for older kids with several large slides and a jungle gym. The playground has sand as its flooring and isn’t covered, which can be a hassle during the hot summer months. However, right next to the playground is a splash zone area where kids can quickly cool off. This mini water park has several water cannons and water sprayers that can provide hours of fun. Grills, picnic tables and restrooms are available, although spreading out a blanket can also make for a cozy picnic spot.
