In 1964, the Beatles have ranked number 1 on the Top 100 Billboard Charts, as well as occupying the 2, 3, 4,and 5 spots on the charts at the same time! It has been 50 years later, and there still hasn’t been any musician or group to ever reach that level of achievement. Their song, “Can’t buy me love” broke barriers by becoming number 1 on the charts, as well as being one of the first songs in history that began with a chorus rather than a verse.
The British rock group consisted of diverse personalities that complimented each other and produced music that many artists can’t ever dream of making. George Harrison, John Lennon, Ringo Starr, and Paul McCartney collaborated in performances that captivated audiences worldwide while cementing their names in history and super-ceded legendary statuses. Despite their later separation, which enabled each member to showcase their talents on a solo status, we hear more songs played today of them together as opposed to when they went their separate ways.
Although many of the members have had a significant influence and impact on culture, John Lennon was always recognized for his clever persona and controversial outlook on political issues. Unfortunately, John Lennon was later shot and killed possibly for his beliefs and his inability to restrain his expression on sensitive line-crossing topics. This tragic incident was just an indication that words have the power to grasp the emotions of a person whether good or bad.
Essentially music can inspire, provoke, or manipulate a persons mind into dwelling in a dream-like state of surreal conditions. So, although an eccentric personality like John Lennon may have offended some through his interviews or his comments, his music displayed a filtered expression of his thoughts that was publicly accepted and appreciated, especially while intertwined with the talents of the other Beatles members. We as fans do not know the Beatles members personally, however watching them and listening to them would make it seem as if we almost grew up with them personally. Music is designed to seem like a one tracked railroad to the artists mind while in reality their mind and visions may be more complex then we can ever fathom.
It would have been an honor to have known each member individually and dissect each of their minds through conversation. Unfortunately that time has passed and the only form of relating to their thoughts is through their music. Even though their hits may have penetrated the barrier of limits and we will always be able to reminiscent and let their music live through us, we have yet to discover the mystery behind the masterpieces. Behind the minds of the popular songs such as Penny Lane, and Mr. Postman, there is a respect and admiration that will live longer than their chart topping placement on the 1964 Billboard charts.
