There was energy and excitement all over the room on Saturday, February 22, 2014. That is because there were a room full of zealous teens ready to sweat and have some fun. Since health and fitness has become so important in the United States, the Teen Diaries Foundation has found an exciting way to empower girls from the ages of 13 to 22 to get fit.
Simply called PRETTY GIRLS SWEAT “Fashion Meets Fitness”, the gathering was held at the Educational Alliance’s Sirovich Center located at 331 East 12th Street in New York City. I was invited review and to be a part of this kick off event for the New Year.
This program was hosted by author, reality TV star, eyewear and shoe designer, June Ambrose and Foundation founder & CEO Aeshia Devore Branch. For the event, seventy inner city teen women from the Teen Diaries community enjoyed a high energy workout led by Crunch.
Fitness routines were followed by a Q & A with the event’s co-host Justine Skye (Atlantic recording artist), author and reality TV Star Daisy Lewellyn and talk show host Bevy Smith.
The exciting thing about Teen Diaries’ Pretty Girls Sweat initiative is that it aims to encourage young women to embrace fitness and feel confident in their own bodies which is one of the reasons I wanted to be a part of it. This specific event focused on making fitness fun while guests also received mentorship from accomplished women who work in the fashion industry. The result for each girl to learn to feel more confident about exercise and gaining knowledge about a variety of careers in the fashion business.
Upon speaking with the CEO, I discovered that the goal is to have more engagement of this nature which is very important for the growth and self-esteem of young women of the future.
