I have been using a Keurig Brewer for the past couple of years and have tried a wide variety of K Cups. I am currently using the Cuisinart Single Serve Brewer SS700.(click the link to read my review) I have only tried a few of the teas because most of them have sugar but when I saw a box of Tazo Zen Green Tea Blend at Target, I had to try it.
From what I understand Tazo is a better brand of tea to begin with. The Zen Green Tea Blend Kcups is copied from one of the Tazo varieties of tea bags, so if you prefer to brew tea bags you can get it that way too. The Ingredients listed on the box include Green Tea, Lemon Verbena, Spearmint Leaves, Lemongrass, and Natural Flavors. Interestingly I learned from reading the box that Tazo Tea is made by the Starbucks Coffee Company. So there ya go! Tazo is the Starbucks of Tea….literally!
Zen Tea Taste
I love the Zen Green Tea Blend and interestingly you can taste each of the ingredients listed above. The one that almost stopped me from purchasing this is the Spearmint. I am not a big fan of mint in tea but this is so subtle that it just gives the tea a little kick and unless someone told you that it was mint, you may never know. You can taste the lemon and the green tea in the base as well. Overall this tea has a mildly sweet flavor and does not have the bitterness that a lot of teas have. I do not drink my tea with sugar but if you do, you will only need to add a little bit.
Strength of Flavor for different sized cups
I am not a big fan of strong tea or coffee so I always start on the largest brew selection. My brewer will brew a 12oz cup so that is what I used. I found this to be fine and as strong as I would possibly want my tea. For my taste I could even add a little water to this and it would still have plenty of flavor.
Iced Tea with Tazo Zen Green Tea Blend
This tea makes a great iced tea without needing to add sugar or even just adding a little sugar. My brewer will brew a 4oz size so I just brew that over a glass of ice and it ends up strong enough for iced tea. The flavor with it’s mild sweetness lends itself very well to iced tea.
