Taylor Tempered Glass Scale #7556 Description
Platform size: For those of you with big feet you know that size does matter in a bathroom scale. My husband has big feet so I always look for a scale that has a large stepping surface. This one was a little smaller than the one we had but was still a generous 12″ x 12″ The platform is large enough for my husbands size 12 feet.
The Look of the Scale: The whole top of the scale is a thick piece of tempered glass. All the workings are under the glass. The base of the scale is low profile and blends right into your floor because it is mainly glass. On each side are matte silver with a black strip across the top and on top but still under the glass is a huge display.
Display: I have to say that the great part of this scale is the huge display which measures 3.8″ x 6″. The black numerals are highlighted with a bright blue back light. It is really easy to read even if you are someone visually challenged like me.
Weight Range: This will weigh anyone who weighs between 35 and 400 lbs or 15 – 180 kg.
Features: This is a very basic Scale and the only option that you have is to select lbs. or kg. or stone measurements. The default on the scale is pounds so I did not have to do anything to it. There is a button on the bottom of the scale to change the setting
Batteries: One feature that I loved about this scale is that it takes regular AAA batteries. I have had scales in the past that would take a special battery that was not only hard to find but expensive. The scale comes with the 2 batteries needed but they are not installed. The scale is equipped to let you know when your batteries are Lo with a LO on the display. The instructions suggest changing both batteries at the same time.
The other thing I liked was that the battery compartment did not require removing a screw to put the batteries in.
Using the Scale
Set Up: Set up is simple. All you have to do is take it from the box, install the batteries and place it on a flat surface. Step on the scale briefly and then step off to calibrate the scale.
Weighing yourself: To get your weight step up on the scale and hold still. This scale registers your weight very quickly. Once it gets your weight the display will remain steady. Once you step off the display remains lit for 10 seconds and the turns off on it’s own.
Accuracy: The scale measures to within 0.2 lbs. I know that some scales will weigh a variety of different weights when you step on and off. This one did not vary by more than 0.2 so I felt it was very accurate. I tried having my husband step on it and then me over and over because I know some scales have a sort of memory, but this one kept weighing us both accurately. I have recently been to my doctor and this weighed very closely to what my doctors scale registered. One thing to remember about accuracy is that you need to put it on a hard flat even surface. If you are trying to use this on carpet, it will not weigh accurately. Also if you have uneven tiles you might have a problem there as well. We have large tiles in our bathroom and all the feet fit in one tile so I make sure to place it that way every time.
Care and Cleaning: I learned the hard way to be careful with these sensitive scales. The instructions say to not spray any cleaners at it or get it overly wet. I pick it up and move it carefully when we are cleaning the floor and do not put it back until I know the floor is dry. Just wipe the surface with a damp cloth and be careful not to jump on the scale or be rough with it in any way as this can permanently ruin the sensitive inner workings of the scale.
Warranty: The scale has a 5 yr warranty, this does not cover batteries or misuse.
Cost / Value: The Purchase price of our scale was $50 but we purchased it at Kohls with Kohls cash plus it was on sale. We got it for close to free so we were very happy with Value for the money paid.
