I have always been a fan of man’s best friend – the loyal dog, but with recent events our friendly felines the cats are beginning to take the spotlight away from man’s best friend. We all know the Internet is 70% (not actual figure) cute kitten videos, but this has still not brought the light away from our canine companions.
In recent news there has been a scary event for many mothers, where a dog on the streets attacked a young boy. Luckily this boy was saved by his loyal CAT (yes cat) – Tara. This has sent uproar in the pet community and has been the talk of many of my friends and even my family who don’t use the Internet. I still firmly stand on the side of the dog but my opinion is beginning to alter. If you haven’t seen this amazing video then you can watch it here; it has already gathered over 21 million views.
I have always thought that cats were more of an independent pet where they don’t care for their owners as much as dog would. A cat is normally quite happy with food and a comfortable place to sleep. This video of Tara has begun to open my mind that as pet owners our pets do look out for us and in a time of need, would defend us. For Tara to go against a dog of all things and even chase the dog away is going against all of Tara’s instincts.
I know many people have had their minds changed by this video about the very nature of cats, but could this have possibly been a one off? If this situation had happened with another cat would they have still come to the aid of their young owner? And if the situation was reversed what percentage of dogs would do the same? Overall, which do you think is the better pet, dogs vs. cats?
Thanks for reading.
