Are you a teenager? Do you know a teenager looking for a summer job? If so, there are many options that young people have to find work during the summertime. The following jobs listed below are best suited for teenagers looking for work during the summertime. Seasonal jobs with flexible hours usually are perfect for younger people, as companies know that once summer comes to a close, most employees will be going back to school. When I was a teenager, I worked many different summer jobs that not only helped build work experience, but shaped my interests into the field I work in today (culinary, customer service).
Ice Cream Shop
Pretty much anywhere you go you will be able to find a local ice cream shop. Ice cream shops are great places to work for teenagers because they are busy, and allow for youngsters to develop skills in time management and customer service. Another benefit of being a teenager working at an ice cream shop is that you will be able to collect tips. Most people buying ice cream will feel good about giving younger people tips because they assume it will go towards their education. It is also a great way to haul in some extra money on top of the hourly wage.
Local pools and beaches are always looking to hire new lifeguards. You will have to take a lifeguard and CPR certification course to become a lifeguard, but the benefits are fantastic (exercise, learning how to save a life). Working at a pool is great because not only do you get to be outside and in the sun all day, but you can take a a refreshing swim whenever you please. Also, having lifeguard on your resume is certainly a gem.
Local Park & Recreation Worker
Being a member of a park and recreation group is another great summer job for teenagers. You will get the opportunity to work with children as well as be outside most of the day. The hours for this type of job are great too because most camps happen from morning until early or mid afternoon, giving you ample amount of downtime after work.
Working in a deli follows the same benefits of working in an ice cream shop. You will build both culinary and customer service skills, as well as the opportunity to earn tips. A deli is a great place to work during summertime because people are always looking to get sandwiches and stuff to grill for parties.
