Kids love to dig their hands in dirt, and the garden gives them the perfect place to do it. But the garden is also the inspiration for some cute kids’ crafts to keep their hands busy and not quite so dirty. When your kids start getting bored, check out these garden-themed crafts.
If you have your own garden at home, let the kids make the plant markers. They help keep the garden organized and the kids get to leave their mark in the garden. Let your child shape the markers from clay. A wooden craft stick pressed into the clay becomes the stake. Paint the markers after the clay dries.
Another simple idea is to paint little pieces of wood to create garden signs. Nail or glue the wooden signs to a wooden stake to hold them in place in the garden.
Usually you want rocks out of the garden, but this craft may change your mind. Choose a medium-sized rock for your child to paint. Let their imaginations run wild. If they need some ideas, you might suggest painting the rock to look like a fairy house, monster, bug or flower. Spray the rocks with a sealant before putting them in the garden so they hold up to all of the weather elements.
Who doesn’t love the magic of believing in fairies? This summer craft project is very open-ended and can be as simple or elaborate as you like. For a simple fairy house, find a quiet corner of the garden that won’t get disturbed. Use twigs, rocks and other found nature items to build a house.
If you want more of a structure to the house, you can use a wooden birdhouse or flower pot propped up to create the base of the house. The kids decorate the fairy house with assorted objects. The typical fairy house blends in with nature.
Beautify Your Garden
It’s not always easy to let the kids enter your gardening domain, but they benefit tremendously from working side by side with you. These simple craft projects add a special touch from your child into your outdoor gardening space.
