I was able to have lunch at Suhmer’s Saloon Western Bar and Restaurant and I was pleasantly surprised. This building has been the home of a few bars over the years and I was a customer over 30 years ago. During that time the owner and the name had changed but the building inside and out was pretty much the same which was wonderful. This is a historic building that has charm and history. You can feel the history as you visit it. It would be a shame if the building every changed.
Once inside my husband and I enjoy a delightful typical Wisconsin fish fry. We had potato pancakes and cod. Our waiter was fun and delightful and the atmosphere was western with saddles and hats being part of the décor. A lovely western bar fills the north wall of the room with stools you can sit at like the old west. You feel like you just walked into the old west when you come to visit the Suhmer’s Saloon.
The historic building sits right along the road and parking is near the door so you don’t need to walk far. As you walk into the door you see cactus growing in pots giving you a western feel. On the inside of the restaurant you see more plants sitting on the window ledges and bright checkered table clothes that give a warm down home feeling.
At the Suhmer’s Saloon Western Bar and Restaurant there is a motel where you can rent a room for a night or a month. You can sleep in a real historic building for about $60 a night.
