Ever since October of 1975, Saturday Night Live has dominated NBCS’ Saturday lineup. The show has produced some of the greatest comedians in history. From Chevy Chase to Dan Aykroyd to Gilda Radner and the legendary Bill Murray. The show is a platform that brought many great comedians into the spotlight. In recent years, SNL has produced some of the biggest names in entertainment.
When people think of late night talk shows, The Tonight Show is often the first to come to mind. The program itself is legendary having been hosted by Jay Leno, Johnny Carson and Steve Allen among others. In February of 2014, Jimmy Fallon took the reigns as host of the Tonight Show. Having made a name for himself on his own late night talk show, Fallon found quick success in his new role. Fallon rose to fame in 1999 thanks to SNL. His impressions and musical humor helped him become on of the show’s stars in his time there. After leaving in 2004, Fallon’s success has been immeasurable.
The modern SNL fans fell in love with Tina Fey during her SNL stint. Aside from her acting in the sketches, Tina was one of the show’s head writers. Her Weekend Update segments became a favorite among fans. Since leaving SNL in 2006, Fey has been a mainstay in American entertainment. The film Mean Girls, which Fey wrote and co-starred in, has become a cult classic among fans. Her show, 30 Rock, lasted seven seasons and was one of the most beloved satirical comedies of the time. She’s set to star in 2014’s Muppets Most Wanted. Starring in a film with The Muppets is a true delight to any actor.
After seven years on SNL, Will Ferrell left the program. He’d risen to be the show’s star player in those years. Now, Ferrell is one of the most recognizable faces in modern comedy. His work includes Talladega Nights: The Ballad of Ricky Bobby, Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy, Megamind, Elf, Oldschool, Blades of Glory, and The Campaign. Ferrell’s comedy has earned him millions of dollars and he continues to make films along with pals like John C. Reilly, Steve Carell and Paul Rudd.
Saturday Night Live has been producing quality sketch comedy since the 1970’s. The show is no stranger to being platform for rising stars. The show itself is legendary and has produced even more legendary entertainers. Our modern film screens are dominated by former SNL cast members.
