It is time to now admit our problem with prescription drugs. Why lie to ourselves more than we already do? It’s already bad to lie but it’s just a horrific sight to watch someone believe in their own lie; Who can tell where is reality at this moment? Am I living a lie or is this just an hallucinatory side effect of whatever I’m smoking? Coming to terms with our problems are better than pretending they’re not there.
The most abused prescriptions today are amphetamines, Methylphenidate, Codeine, Morphine, Methadone and sleep medications such as Ambien.
Amphetamines and Methylphenidate are stimulants which are usually use in medication for ADHA, ADD or to treat narcolepsy and other sleep disorders. These drugs increase assertiveness and allow you to focus easier in school. These basically decrease being distracted in the classroom setting and anywhere else, which is why many would abuse them and use them as “Smart drugs.” These will also give you a jolt in your energy as you go on with your day. The side effects of abusing these substances could be loss of appetite, weight loss, hallucinations, panic attacks, anxiety, increased blood pressure and heart rate. These drugs should only be used by those who have psychiatric disorders. Amphetamines can be injected, swallowed, smoked or snorted. Methylphenidate can be injected, swallowed or snorted
Codeine, Morphine and Methadone are Opioids, which are mainly used as pain relievers. These can be used by anyone, which may be a reason so many people can get their hands on it. The side effects of abusing this drug are feeling no pain(what a scary thought), undilated pupils, euphoria, confusion, slurred speech, dry mouth and sweating(there are more). Most young people use this for the euphoria or high feeling it would give them. Codeine and Methadone can be injected or swallowed, whereas Morphine can be injected, swallowed or smoked.
All sleep medications are depressants, such as Ambien and Sonata and they are commonly called rophies. The name rophies actually came from a sleeping pill named Rohypnol. Depressants are known as downers because they stripe you of your emotions, which is why they are mainly for those who suffer from Anxiety, Seizures and Narcolepsy. Depressants are incautiously taken with alcoholic beverages that can ultimately halt breathing and cause unresponsiveness. These can also decrease your blood pressure, limit tolerance, slur your speech, give the feeling of drowsiness and confuse you.
These drugs can be great for their intended purpose, but when they are taken advantage of they have dire consequences that can be fatal. Now ask yourself…is it really worth it?
