Boom and Bewm is the first boss battle in Borderlands 2 after the tutorial introduction. Like all boss battles, you earn above average rewards by completing the battle. This battle is unique because you are always assured to get grenades from this boss battle. Depending on your character, this battle can either be intensely difficult or incredibly easy. Follow the instructions in the Boom and Bewm Boss Battle guide below to take out this nasty duo.
Suggested Level: 5
If you get to Bewm and Boom at anything less than 5th level, you won’t have access to your action skill yet. Without your action skill, you are pretty much assured to lose this battle. Spend time leveling up just outside the boss battle if necessary and make sure your action skill is fully charged before entering the battle.
You have very few options in weapons at this point. You may have already received a good sniper rifle or assault rifle from a quest, but that is pretty much the only assured high quality weapon that you have. What you really want is both. A good assault rifle is incredibly helpful for taking out Bewm and a good sniper rifle is what you want for Boom. If you are willing to reset the game a little, you can farm the marauder base south east of Liar’s Berg in an attempt to get a few more high quality weapons.
When you enter the boss battle, Boom is sitting on a giant gun on the opposite side of the map from you. There are a number of small buildings you can hide behind near where you begin and then mostly open field towards the gun. Just behind the gun is a large building that you can’t enter but blocks line of sight between you and the gun. Bewm starts in the open field area.
As soon as you enter the battle, get behind cover. That big gun will slowly rotate and will shoot at you whenever it has a direct shot. Unfortunately, you can just hang out and wait, because Bewm and a bunch of psycho minions will run towards you and try to kill you. Bewn throws grenades, which pretty much force you to leave your cover, while the psychos just try to kill you with melee attacks.
For the first section of this boss battle, you need to run between cover while shooting Bewm whenever you can. Since he only attacks you with grenades, he actually isn’t that big a threat if you are constantly on the move. The biggest danger he causes you is forcing you to run in front of the big gun. The psychos are much more dangerous, but will fall easily. Bewm has no shield, so just about any action skill will let you kill him quickly, though make sure not to get stuck fighting him in the open if you are using Salvador or Krieg.
Once he is dead, stay behind cover and kill psychos while your action skill cools down. If you are playing as either Maya or Zero, you really want a sniper rifle now, because your action skill isn’t very useful against the big gun. Either duck in and out of cover sniping the gun, strafe it with small arms fire, or use your action skill to kill it if you are Gaige or Axton. Once it is down, Boom will jump off and attack you with grenades and a gun, though the saber turret or Deathtrap will probably finish him off before that happens if you used it against the giant gun. Like his brother, basically any action skill kills him quickly and this time you don’t have to dodge a giant turret while killing him.
Both brothers drop grenade mods, at least one of which will probably be rare. Additionally, there is a treasure chest on the gate side of the large building. Don’t forget to loot this after the battle. The nearest place to sell gear is back in Liar’s Berg, unfortunately.
