I am giving up on the Paleo diet because it really is not for me. I can see why people lose weight on this diet. However, losing weight is not the main reason I began this diet.
I read all the information I could locate on the Paleo Diet. The majority of it stated this is an all-natural diet and very healthy. I wanted to be super healthy and kick my body into healing overdrive.
I figured the healthier I could make myself the quicker my recovery from Bells Palsy would be. After a few months of having this illness, I was eager to try anything I could to get rid of it. Lord knows I will do just about anything to be rid of this illness.
The Paleo Diet uses the foods that were found in the Paleolithic era. The people ate natural items that were not processed. In essence, they ate what they hunted from land and sea and what they gathered.
The meat they ate was meat they could wandering around the plains. They ate fruit that grew around them and used it to flavor their cooking. Eggs were plentiful as were herbs.
They did not grow potatoes, beans, or other legumes. Dairy products were not around either which means no cheese, milk or ice cream. This part of the diet is something that I could not really deal with.
Whenever you are sick, you want comfort foods and this diet does not include any of my comfort foods. I love macaroni and cheese, you can have neither the macaroni or the cheese on this diet.
Granted the fish part of this diet was easy to eat and I enjoyed the fish. There are many ways to eat fish, but on this diet, it is baking, poaching or boiling. Frying was out because oils were not used back then. After awhile it grows boring. Also the cheaper fish around here are not fish that were around back then so technically they are not really on the diet. The grass fed beef and free-range chicken meats are expensive.
I do not believe this diet worked for me. Any weight I lost came from not eating due to an immobile jaw for a few months. My jaw is moving now however I still have chewing issues due to the Bells Palsy.
The Bells Palsy is still here almost a year later and I do not feel as if I am any healthier either. Perhaps this Paleo diet works for some people but it is something I will not follow any longer.
