A successful salesperson has a strategy on how to reach their goals. A part of that strategy should be how they will approach their day-to-day duties to achieve those goals. Below are tips on having an effective day.
Create a to-do list before you leave work the previous day
By making a to-do list before you leave for work, you’ll be able to evaluate what you did that day. If there are any calls you need to make, emails you should send, or clients you have to visit, it will be fresh on your mind that you need to do that tomorrow. When you get to work the next day you’ll already know what your day should look like.
Get your distractions out of the way
If you’re a coffee drinker, make that your first task. Need to use the restroom, touch up on your makeup, grab a bagel, or catch up on last nights TV series with your co-workers? Now is the time. It’s best to get all of your distractions out of the way early.
Don’t be monotonous
It’s good to shake things up. If you’re required to make cold calls as a part of your job, focus on calling new business and prospects for an hour, then take a five minute break and move on to a new task such as sending emails or working on a proposal. Don’t wear out yourself with the same task all day. Switch up your tasks while getting through your to do list.
Respond to voicemails and emails at a set time
Voicemails and emails can be a major distraction. If your email provider shows a small pop up when you receive a new email, hide or ignore it. Pick a certain time during the day to respond to emails and voicemails. By being overzealous and responding immediately to clients, you distract yourself from the task at hand. Once you respond to one email, you’ll respond to a few more and get sidetracked from what you were originally doing.
Although everyone has their own game plan, these are some simple steps that can help you stay focused and make the most out of your day.
