Blogging is one of those things that people do for a number of reasons. Either a blog is started to kill the time, share things that interest you, or to make a little money. But sometimes it’s hard trying to figure out where to start. If you know how to properly write complete sentences, then starting a blog will be a piece of cake, and in fact is more easy than you realize. It all boils down to knowing a few tips to help get you started.
One of the key things about starting a blog is finding something that interests you, or are passionate about. Make it fun and interesting for everybody else because if your blog is about dull and boring topics, you’re not going to get a lot of readers. When people stumble across any kind of content, they want to read things that’ll keep them interested. So make sure your topics are unique and written in a unique way.
When choosing topics for your blog, make sure they are topics that you know enough about. What’s the point in writing about something that you have no knowledge in? It’s perfectly okay to write about something that you have to do a little bit of research on, but the key is make sure you know what you’re talking about. If you don’t, it’s going to show in your blog, and pretty much make you look silly. That’s not what you want if you want people taking your blog seriously. This is a common mistake a novice blogger could make if they aren’t sure what to write about.
When it comes to your blog, it doesn’t always have to be all about words. Spice it up a little bit with pictures and videos. That’ll put the perfect touch to your blog and will put more emphasis on the topic you’re discussing. In some cases, some people only do vlogs, which is a video blog. That’s always an option also.
If you’re trying to start a blog in order to make money, keep in mind that many websites that you’re trying to link with your blog won’t accept free websites. (example: myblog.sample.com) Many websites will want you to have your own domain, which means you’ll have to pay a monthly fee in order to keep your domain name. (example: myblog.com) See the difference in domains? Remember this for future reference. Also, it’s important to decide on the right name that will express what your blog is about. Keep in mind the topic or topics that you write about to determine the proper name.
If you would rather have your own website with a blog page or section, that’s fine too, and one of my personal preferences because there is so much more content that you can put up in unique ways about your life and/or career, as opposed to blogging alone. Carefully think about which one you would rather do.
Your blog doesn’t have to be based on one topic or certain topics. It can be about a variety of things. Remember the above tips about them being topics you’re familiar with and are passionate about.
When you have a blog, you also have a responsibility to your readers to keep them updated. Posting an entry here, and then posting another one several months later will not result in a successful blog. The audience will soon be under the impression that you have nothing to say, and that your blog is “dead.” Avoid dead blogs. Keep them up-to-date.
Enabling a “comments” section will help you become more interactive with your readers. This is a great way of allowing your blog to flourish. It’ll let your readers know that you care about how they feel, and will make them want to come back to your blog more often, perhaps even spreading the word on your blog too. Sounds great, right? Of course this is only an option. It’s entirely up to you whether you want comments enabled or not.
