I remember the days when I could lose 10-pounds without even really trying; of course, now I am older and those pounds just don’t come off all that easily anymore.
I’m committed to taking better care of myself, my family, friends and the fur family, aka the Chinook dogs. In my world, it was time for some lifestyle changes so my little part of the world would be a healthier place. I’ve had success combining dietary change, daily walks with the dogs (about three miles) and yoga to help with flexibility too. So far, I am down about 15 pounds and am continuing to aim at the goal of losing about 2.5 pounds per week.
One of my friends started on Weight Watchers with some co-workers and asked if I could help prepare meals for her. Loving to cook, I agreed and then thought it would be good to have those same meals in my own household too. The Weight Watchers Simple Start and Points Plus is a pretty simple system which allows almost any foods, and it is really easy to implement when you have support and food prepped up ahead.
My Food Plan
After looking at the Weight Watchers program, I dug out the My Food Plan pamphlet I got to prepare healthy alternatives for people that are diabetic or pre-diabetic. I opted to add this in because some of the weight watchers foods are acceptable, but have higher sugar levels than I wanted to include in my dietary plan.
FREE Daily Food Plans
FREE is a great word to see, and I love the government site Choose My Plate for information, recipes, exercise tips and more. Enter your information on the site find out, and receive a customized Daily Food Plan. There’s a section called Know Your Farmer Know Your Food that helps connect people to farmers and there’s also an exercise section too to help you get physical.
The public library has a wealth of information on healthier lifestyles and eating. This week I got the Mark Hyman, MD book, 10-Day Detox which addresses high blood sugar, and healthier living. I’ve also found great books on Mediterranean diets that emphasize plant-based foods, like fruits and vegetables, whole grains, legumes and nuts and healthy oils like Olive and Canola.
