Hallyu in Korea is the equivalent of Hollywood in America. Though not as dramatic as Hollywood, this spring has been buzzing with celebrity marriages, earnings and controversies.
On April 12th, celebrity Oh Ji Ho (Single Dad in Love, Chuno), tied the knot with his sweetheart for two years. His bride is a fashion designer who is three years his former, whom he met through a mutual acquaintance. The couple’s gorgeous pre-wedding photos was released days before their ceremony at the Shilla Hotel, which revealed his beautiful bride to the public for the first time.
In Korea, top celebrities don’t need to act to earn a living. They could just film some CF (commercial film) every year. The top Hallyu stars to have reportedly earned the most this year from CFs alone are Shin Min Ah (My Girlfriend is a Gumiho), Jun Ji Hyun (Man of the Stars) and miss A’s Suzy (Dream High) .
Just having parted ways with his group 4Men, Kim Young Jae has become the black sheep of the industry. He is charged for a 650 million won fraud after investing in faulty car insurance loans and defaulting on the principal and interest .
In Korea, it’s mandatory for men to serve a two-year military service. Unfortunately, the same goes for hot Hallyu stars such as Park Ki-Woong (Gaksital) who’s beginning his service on May 8th. Although most stars opt for the easy option of being in the “special unit” of artists, meaning all they have to do is perform for the troupes, he will be enlisted in the regular service. Other stars facing a similar fate are Yoo Ah-In (Secret Love Affair) and Choi Jin-Hyuk (Emergency Couple) . Needless to say, fans will be sad to see them go.
