Spring has finally arrived and so have the seasonal beers. American breweries have been busy making sure every beer palette is satisfied. I have found the top five from the best of the American Spring Beers.
Great Lakes Brewing Co. Chillwave Double IPA was my favorite pick for over all beer drinking. Hard to believe this is a double IPA with a 9.4% ABV (alcohol by volume). Rich amber color with an aroma of citrus is typical of an IPA, but the smooth honey malt left on my palette surprised me with a less bitter flavor than most IPAs. Time to kick back, have a grilled burger and a hearty mug of Chillwave and spring is here!
Goose Island Beer Co. 312 Urban Pale Ale is the newbie in Goose Island’s 312 line of beers. Remember, 312 is the area code for Chicago and the Mayor, Rahm Emanuel, has declared March 12, 2014 as “312 Day”! What fun to have a day named after a beer that truly is superior in flavor? This 312 Urban Ale only has an ABV of 5.4%, but can hold its own with other big hitter IPAs. It has a rich caramel flavor with a hint of citrus to round the flavors off.
Victory Swing Session Saison is supposed to be a jazzy inspiration and does not disappoint the beer drinker looking for a party in a bottle. The aroma is delightfully citrus of both orange and lemon. It has an ABV of 4.5% with spicy, strong citrus and fruity flavors. This is a Belgium styled ale brewed with spices and citrus. If you are sitting around the springtime patio with some mussels or nibbling on a pretzel this is the beer to enjoy.
Deschutes Brewery Fresh Squeezed IPA is a fruit bowl of flavors in a beer bottle. Pour into a glass to appreciate the dark red color and slight creamy foam head. An ABV of 6.4% makes this, far from wimpy, IPA. Refreshing citrus flavors of grapefruit, pineapple and oranges are detectable along with a plum and pear finish. Try this beer with some flavorful seafood and you will not be disappointed.
Magic Hat Brewing Co. Dream Machine IPL is a beer drinkers ‘go to’ for a nicely balanced beer. This is beer has a 5.7% ABV and is a combination strong pale ale and amber lager. The beautiful amber color and slight citrus aroma allude to the slight bitter IPA flavor on first sip. After the initial bitter hop flavor, a malt after taste satisfies the beer drinker’s taste buds.
Spring is here and so are the spring beers. Give one, or all of these delightful beers, a try to find your favorite.
