We recently purchased a Soundfreaq Soundkick Blue Tooth Speaker SFQ-04 The speaker allows us to play things wirelessly from our iPhones, iPads or iPod Touch. The instructions suggested downloading a free app at the app store. I tried it, and while it worked fine, I decided that it was really not necessary and I did not get anymore functionality from this app than I could get from any other App that I was playing music with. To me it just added an extra step that I had to go through rather than just using the controls on the music or radio app that I was using.
Description and Experience
The Soundfreaq App turns your iPhone, iPad or iPod Touch into a Remote control for your Soundfreaq device. It may work with other bluetooth devices, but I only tried it with my Sound Kick. The Sound Kick is a bluetooth speaker. I was hoping that this App would provide more controls or let me see things that I could not see when I was in my music center or on a radio app. The truth is that this app does not add anything. I was hoping there might be tone controls but it lacks anything to adjust the sound except the volume which I can get right on the music or radio app.
My speaker has a function that boosts the sound making it a little brighter. Normally you have to push a button on the speaker to activate or deactivate this feature. I was hoping that the App would include this button or at the very least show a graphic to tell me whether it was on or off. Again the app lacks this function.
Basically all you get with the App is a black screen with volume buttons and a way to go through your music. You can start and stop and flip through your music collection in a more streamlined way without any graphics. It will also work with some other Soundfreaq units that have a built in radio. My speaker did not so really all I can use it for is this remote.
Pairing your speaker is done with a button on the speaker and settings on your device so this function is not needed nor does it exist within the app. The app view is a portrait view similar to what any remote control would look like. The functions of the app were responsive and worked just fine, but in my opinion since they were completely redundant with those already on my music player the app did not add any value to my experience.
My rating and recommendation
I give the Soundfreaq Remote app 1 star and can not recommend it. I just feel that it adds an extra step to using my blue tooth speaker and adds absolutely nothing to the experience. It takes up room on my iPhone, so I will be deleting it.
