The room where you’ll be having the Cinco de Mayo party will look fantastic! You’ll have colorful, fun decorations, foods for the occasion, and cool party favors. Many of the things at the party, such as tacos, banners, and other Mexican-theme stuff, can be made by you. Contrary to what most people believe, you don’t have to go out and spend a lot of money to have a Cinco de Mayo party. Sombreros of all sorts are sold at this time of year, for wearing, and even to use as treat platters. In fact, the party platters are one of the easiest things that you can make for the celebration. Let’s start with them and work our way towards other sombrero crafts, okay?
With quality paper plates and cups you can make the most darling snack trays. They can be used as plates for individuals or as serving trays for the Cinco de Mayo foods. Start out with a stiff paper plate and turn a stiff paper cup upside down. Glue it to the middle of the plate and the sombrero takes shape. Glue small pompoms onto the edges of the plate so that they dangle down; the sombrero will then look quite convincing. It’s up to you if you want to draw with a marker to further create a festive look for the plate and cup.
Make a Cinco de Mayo centerpiece by using a clay pot. Purchase a too-large, clay dish, set it on the table, and turn the clay pot upside-down on it. It can hold lemons and limes, candy, or even flowers.
Sombrero candles will really lend to the Cinco de Mayo table decorations and you can make them by using cylindrical votive candles. Use a small plate as the brim of the hat and set the candle in the middle of it. Paint stripes or other designs on the plate as well as the candle to create the sombrero look.
Make sombrero cookies by using your choice of small, round cookies. “Glue” a gumdrop or similarly-shaped candy to the cookie by using frosting. Offer your guests sombrero cupcakes when you make the cookies and then put them on frosted cupcakes.
Your Cinco de Mayo guests are going to love delicious party favors that you make from Rice Krispie treats. Make thin, round ones, stick a marshmallow to the top of each one, and then decorate the hat with tube frosting.
A Cinco de Mayo party is colorful, festive, and fun, but even more so when you don’t spend a lot of money on it. Make assorted sombreros and the party will practically host itself!
