According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, the median yearly income for lawyers in the United States was $112,760 dollars in May 2010. By comparison, all other jobs’ annual income was $33,840. If you are one of the best, it’s even better. The top 10 percent of lawyers make over $166,400. It would be more financially satisfying to be a partner at a firm than working safe.
Everybody accused need lawyers. Some of them have broken the law. But other hasn’t and been wrongly accused and more than likely can’t afford lawyers. Imagine how you feel if you were to take the case pro bono (meaning not charging the client) and win. You could have given a mother a chance of reuniting with her children. The possibilities of you helping somebody and feeling so good afterwards are limitless.
Being a lawyer is very demanding mentally. But it is very stimulation when you find that weak point in the opposing case. There is much studying and researching. But when you finally put all of the pieces together, it will be all worth it.
Room for Advancement
Most law firms have a lot of room for advancement. Lawyers interested in becoming a partner could become profit-sharing partners at their firms within seven to ten years. With a high turnover rate at a fast-growing firm, the time to accomplish this could be dramatically lessened.
Being a lawyer means trusting your own judgment. You are going to have to decide something and don’t back down on your interpretation on the law and facts. When others disagree with your point of view, you have to back it up with facts and evidence. Each time you convince others, your confidence will no doubt increase. Even your mistakes will increase your confidence when you lose. You will review every part of your case with a fine point comb and a giant magnifying glass and see where you went wrong. And you will try your hardest to make sure it will never happen again.
The pros of being a lawyer are high. You have a high earning potential with many other advantages not available in other professions.
