What is a favorite topic for older EFL students? Many of them love to learn about love-life vocabulary in my opinion. This guide shows some easy to learn EFL idioms on love, and dating.
#1 Blind date– This is when two people have never seen each other and they go on a date.
Example: Eric was smiling this morning. He had a blind date with a pretty girl last night.
#2 Love is blind- People tend to do anything for love.
Example: Eric bought his new girlfriend an entire bouquet of flowers even though he is poor. This is just because love is blind.
# 3 Puppy love– This is the kind of love when two people first start dating. They are very cute and innocent.
Example: Eric and Jenna walk around the hallways at school holding hands. It is just like puppy love.
#4 Tough love- This is when you have to be strict with someone you love. The aims is for the other person to get better.
Example: Eric’s teacher always yells at him when he doesn’t do his homework. He is just giving him tough love.
#5 Go steady with someone– This is an old phrase for two people becoming a couple.
Example: Eric asked Jenna to go steady with him today. Eric cried when she said no.
#6 Love nest– A place where a couple can enjoy spending time together in private.
Example: Eric uses the tree behind the school as a love nest for him and Jenna. They hang out there every day after school.
What’s the first new term you will use? Have you heard of any of these before?
