The number of reasons for missing a former friend can be staggering but every day long lost friends think about the possibility of a positive reconnect with old friends. Some people begin to feel nostalgic about a happier past when facing present-day challenges. Other people hear a special song or watch an old home movie and think about the old days with grief and regret. Whatever the reason, you’ve probably asked the question yourself, “Should I reconnect with old friends?” It’s tempting to reach out to an old friend, even one who you may have fallen out with; but before you do, consider a few things.
Old Friends: Back in Time
Some old friends are stuck in a time warp. You’ll notice they have the same problems, the same hairstyle and may still be living at home. Before you reconnect with old friends, ask yourself if you should just treasure the memory of the old friend rather than reconnect. Are you ready to go back in time?
You Forget Why You Quit Hanging Out
You may quickly remember why you stopped the friendship to begin with. He still drinks too much or she still snorts when she laughs and embarrasses you in front of mutual friends. Take a long hard look at your “good memories” before you reconnect with old friends.
What About the Current Circle?
In your current circle of friends, you have managed to strike an easy balance. You’re the fun girl or the athletic guy. If you reconnect with an old friend, you may lose your current status. Also, your old friends and your new friends may not have much in common.
Breaking Up is Hard to Do
Old friends may not have grown in the same ways you have. Once you reconnect with old friends, you will probably notice that you’ve both changed, significantly. That’s nobody’s fault-just a fact. Are you ready to ditch that friend again?
These are just some things to think about before you reconnect with an old friend!
