Imagine the Malice at the Palace incident being a common occurrence at every NBA game (www.youtube.com/watch?v=_ELKW_WMwV0). Most people would think this is outrageous, but there are some people in the NBA who are for this rule. There are players like Marcin Gortat who feel as if the fighting rule would help out the league.
When asked about when the players should be doing the fighting, Marcin said “During the game. Quick, 15-20 seconds, throw few punches, then referees jump in and break this thing up. I think the game … these two guys, they resolved their problem. They’re both suspended and they’re leaving. But end of the day, they fix the problem between each other, fans are super excited, and I think that would be a pretty cool idea” (deadspin.com/marcin-gortat-wants-the-nba-to-allow-fighting-1540620645).
Pros of the idea: 1. A couple players in the NBA get satisfaction from kicking the crap out of each other.
2. Boost ratings, fans will love it.
Cons of the idea: 1. Pretty much every other aspect of letting NBA players fighting. There will be many injuries, suspensions, and a mess to clean up after every single fight.
We already love basketball for what it is. If we want to watch fights, we can simply turn on UFC, boxing, or hockey. It is a cool idea to fantasize about, but should never be allowed in the NBA.
