I’ve loved shoes for as long as I can remember. Wearing orthopedic shoes as a child resulted in a major shoe addiction as an adult. The following are five of my favorite places to browse and buy at a discount and tax free!
Alec’s Shoes – Nashua, NH
My #1. Alec’s has a discount section that fills the second floor! Amazing service, and an incredible selection including KEEN, Merrell, Nike and more. This is a clearinghouse for the store’s premium shoes, and offers top quality at a majorly discounted price. Everything from dance shoes to running shoes to casual shoes -120+ brands for women, men, children. Clothing and accessories also offered.
Red’s Shoe Barn – Dover and Plaistow, NH
A huge variety of high end shoes and specialty shoes for those needing diabetic or therapeutic styles. Over 200 brands available. You’ll get incredibly personal service, but no pressure to buy. Browse to your heart’s content. They also offer clothing and accessory lines from Carhartt, North Face, Ugg, Mad Bomber, and Under Armour. The original store is in Dover and opened over 50 years ago in what used to be a blacksmith shop.
Runner’s Alley – Portsmouth, Manchester, Nashua
New Hampshire’s Only “Running Only” Store, Runner’s Alley is also a running community! They offer the top brands in running shoes including Altra, Asics, Mizuno, and more. And we’re not talking one or two, but the full line! They also carry books, track spikes, energy foods, etc. If a runner needs it they carry it! As a plus, they offer free education seminars and clinics, running groups (adventure and advanced included), and have treadmills in every store, plus a calendar of running events, and even free in-store sports massages. Like to run? Check this place out.
J. L. Coomb’s – Portsmouth
I bought my first pair of Dansko clogs here and was hooked! As with the other 3 stores, this one offers Patagonia, Dansko, Rieker, Frye, Hunter, and Born plus hundreds of others. They’ve also got newer brands like OTZ and Miz Mooz. Not so much the place to get killer heels, J. L. Coomb’s the perfect source for casual shoes, boots, and sandals. They also carry Prana clothing and other apparel. If you’re visiting historic Portsmouth, squeeze in a shoe shopping trip as well.
My chain store favorite, DSW Shoe Warehouse – Nashua and Salem
This is my “go-to” store for heels, dressy sandals, great prices on Spanks, and a really cute selection of jewelry and purses. Looking for something unique to make you stand out in a crowd? DSW has it. Plus “shoephoria Customer Service”! They mean it when they say they want you to have a euphoric shoe experience.
You can buy shoes anywhere, but having a huge range of brands, sizes, amazing customer service, signficant discounts, and tax savings make NH the perfect destination for a Saturday Shoe Binge, or a girls day out!
