A few years back, my life improved drastically, and I paid a price of packing on around 15 pounds during this blissful time. I was loving life and eating what I wanted, but I realized as much as I loved food, I loved being able to fit in my clothes slightly more.
I needed a game plan which meant forming some new habits. Most would say that an extreme diet plan coupled with a new gym membership is the golden ticket – WRONG! While so many diet plans on the market do work, they do not allow for gradual and then permanent lifestyle changes to maintain a healthy weight, resulting in constant weight fluctuation. I am also not a ‘gym-person’ which makes me resent the status quo that working out in a gym is an answer to weight loss.
Just Do It
Successes that contributed to my weight loss was the decrease in sugar in my diet (cut back on sodas, choosing foods lower in sugar content) and adding protein, whole grains, and fruit, with healthier snacks (mixed nuts, granola and yogurt, and beef jerky.) Quitting foods cold-turkey is a no-no, so adopting an ‘eat-this-not-that’ type of mentality is more realistic. The same applies to exercise – find something you enjoy doing, explore your options! I found that simply taking my dog for a walk, riding my bike, and Tracy Anderson Pilates home videos were my delight! Mix it up so monotony doesn’t set in – that’s where loss of interest stakes its claim!
I shed fifteen pounds in about three months, and I formed new habits that allow me to maintain my weight. Don’t force yourself to do things that make you miserable in the process. While discipline is required, do what fits your body, life and schedule so you will have your own success story to tell – permanently and not temporarily!
