Amid the latest weekend violence around Chicago, the beginning of the warm weather is only the beginning. With death tolls ranging around 7 and 35 people wounded; there needs to be a call of action. Chicago cannot continue to experience these rampant death tolls and number of people shoot on the daily or weekly basis.
There have been numerous rallies in these high crime areas in Chicago organized by church leaders and non-violent community organizations. With all their efforts to address the growing violence in these communities, there still is not enough being accomplished. The crime is still occurring. Children are getting shoot. People are not able to enjoy the warm weather without living in fear. Children are being more exposed to violence than ever before.
Chicago has made so many efforts to address and combat the crime. The Mayor and Police Department have increased their efforts of putting more police on patrol. There are numerous cameras on the corners of these high crime areas. Police are attentive to the escalating violence and drug trafficking. Children disobeying the curfew laws and the rampant violence in and around the city are constantly being battled.
It is time for Chicago to come up with a better plan for combating the growing violence. The police can patrol all day and night. These prominent community leaders can stand together to rally for an end to the violence. Although, it is not mediating the growing issue at hand. There needs to be more effort towards reaching out to these children and adults.
These are people with too much time on their hands. They are bored and possess a lot of pinned up anger within them. The amount of violent exposure has mentally and emotionally harmed them. There needs to be more affordable community programs available for people to release their pinned up anger and frustrations in a safe place. These high crime areas need more available resources to create affordable gyms and training facilities. Creating a safe and affordable place for them to workout, train for a sport, while instilling discipline in their craft. Taking the kids off the street and teaching them a disciplined sport, will allow for them to release that extra energy, combat their boredom, and keep their minds focused on something positive to work towards.
Until extra efforts are put into place to combat the violence, assist these prominent community leaders, and physically address the issue; then the rate of violence will continue to increase over the weeks to come.
