I loved being pregnant — well, at least during one of my pregnancies. I’ve been a pregnant a total of four times and each experience was hugely different than the previous one. After informally polling my circle of friends, I’ve come to realize that some of the things you love in the beginning of your pregnancy you may like less after just a few months. Do any of these sound familiar?
My Changing Body
It’s so wonderful when you first notice how your body is changing. Your tummy rounds slightly, your breasts seem a little fuller. It’s a beautiful thing. (Loved it!) Well, at least until you can’t see your feet or until you have wear balloon clothing. Yep, most of us loved and hated it.
Personally, it’s one of the things I’ll remember the rest of my life, that light, fluttery feeling of a baby in my tummy. Amazing how sensational that is, until he gets a little bigger and you feel sick, like there’s a barrel of monkeys in your stomach. Constant sickness is the pits. Still, it is one of the things you’ll miss after the baby makes his debut. Overall, despite the sickness, more women loved it.
All the Attention
Nobody gets pregnant for the attention (or at least no one sane) but it’s guaranteed to come. Prepare for nine months of questions like, “What will you name it?” or “What are you having?” If you dare to share you’re having a home birth or you’re having twins, you’ll receive even more questions. All that attention is really a mixed bag and whether you love it or not depends on the day, doesn’t it?
That Special Glow
During one pregnancy, my OB/GYN said, “Wow! Pregnancy really agrees with you.” At another appointment with another baby I heard, “Oh dear. Let’s check your blood pressure.” Some women have that “special glow,” the rest of us sweat and turn beet red.
A Brand New Wardrobe
I’ve never been a shopaholic but I do like to look nice and put together. One you’re pregnant, your regular wardrobe is going to get smaller and smaller. That makes it a bit tough to feel and look pretty. On the upside, when you’re pregnant, it is socially acceptable to wear stretchy pants. Hate the way they look-love the way they feel.
Dreaming of larger breasts? Your dreams are about to come true. You’ll probably feel sexier with those larger “girls” but once they start growing, it may be a while before they stop. Loved it at first but trying to squeezing those bad boys into a bra can be a challenge.
Changing Sleep Patterns
Some women say they’ve never slept better than when they’re pregnant others hardly sleep at all. You can expect your sleep patterns to shift, especially as your baby becomes a bit more active.
Pregnancy is different for everyone. Enjoy this time while you can–it will be over before you know it.
