You have successfully managed to make it through high school. There is a little secret that no one really shares at graduation time, but today I am letting the cat out of the bag. Life is really just a big high school, so you already have the skills to manage it and design it to fit your needs.
If you walk into any new situation, it only takes a minute to identify all the players. There are the geeks, the cheerleaders, the athletes, the speech and drama, the misfits, the administration, the teachers and all the other sorted groups that are right here with you in graduating class. Since you now know the secret you know how to interact with all of them and know what to expect.
Imagine for a moment the power that gives you to communicate. You have been watching these groups for years. You know all the ins and outs and now you know that college and work place have all the same elements. Use this to your advantage. Be the one who builds the bridges and makes the connections.
Everyone has a dream for you. The dream that really matters is the one that is hidden in your heart. Once you find that dream, nourish it. Make decisions that will lead with that dream and passion. You are not required to announce it to the world. Just make it so.
You know how to read, write, handle money and have good social skills. You have the basics to succeed in life right now. All you really need to do is choose a road and apply yourself. It is your time to make those decisions, pay the bills and take care of your life. Your parents are your cheerleader and you are now responsible for the bank account. It is a big job and you are prepared.
If you are carrying around some old feelings of doubt, resentment, fear, and pessimism, it is time to dump them out. Now pack up some optimism, common sense, confidence, and humor. These will serve you well as you re-introduce yourself to the world.
There will be bumps in the road. So fly high and land on your feet and heading in the right direction. Dust things off, re-evaluate and get moving again. These bumps will become some of your cherished memories and best stories.
So take off those caps and give them a toss. A whole new big world is waiting.
