The midnight snack attack hit us all on more than one occasion. I am guilty of snacking on food I crave. Sometimes dietary content fails to register when I whip up a late night snack. Fulfilling whatever you are craving is the main idea of late night snacking. If you have a savory side or a sweet tooth, midnight snacking is the perfect way to quench your longing. My go-to snacks are semi-homemade. Semi homemade means you save time and some money. The purpose is to whip out a quick snack and get chowing down.
Twinkie cake is my personal favorite to munch on late night. The recipe is fun to make and the benefit of making this recipe lies in the versatility. You can have it for dessert or late night snacking. I make two boxes of banana pudding, or I use the banana pudding packs. I will layer the pudding over top of a cake pan lined with Twinkies. Next, I layer sliced bananas. The final addition is a layer of whipped cream. For the garnish, I drizzle melted chocolate over the whipped cream.
Everything is better with bacon weave baskets! I usually prebake food that I am going to consume during a late night snack. Turn the oven on to 375 degrees. I usually do all my meat at this temperature to make sure my meat cooks nice and slow without burning. I chop long strips of bacon and chop the slices in half. I go to the local butcher shop to get the bacon because they can sell me very long strips of bacon. I weave the bacon and coat the strips with brown sugar. I place the bacon weave into a large cup size muffin pan. Place the bacon weave into the oven and bake until there is a nice crisp. Drain bacon grease. I fill the bacon basket with potato salad. I do this after a picnic to get rid of leftovers when I get a midnight snack attack.
Fresh fruit syrup is perfect for late night ice cream cravings. I start with strawberries in a blender and hit frappe. I boil a cup of water in a medium saucepan. Next, after the water boils dissolve a teaspoon of cornstarch. I add enough sugar to taste and let simmer. Finally, mix in the fruit frappe. Pour on ice cream when cool. Dig in!
