If you didn’t already know, Sandals is an all-inclusive resort found throughout the Caribbean. Watching television, I often wondered if their commercials lived up to their hype – it seemed too good to be true. Overall, my first Sandals experience exceeded my high expectations, making it a fantastic trip. The positives most certainly outweighed the negatives. Below, I have broken down into categories the different aspects of the resort that made it so great and memorable: room, food, service, and activities.
Sandals Grande Antigua offers many types of rooms and is split into two main sides. There is a Mediterranean side and a Caribbean side. My room was located on the Mediterranean side, which is the main part of the resort. I had a first floor room with a walkout garden view. The Caribbean side offers rooms that look like small houses. These have their own pool and outdoor shower and typically are a little higher in price. The room I stayed in was spacious, fully stocked with drinks, air conditioned, and had a large bathroom. I was glad to choose a room with a walkout deck because it made it an easy walk to and from the pool.
There are more than enough options for food on the resort. In fact, my girlfriend and I were unable to hit all of them within a 6 day period. The diversity in selection is just wonderful: Sushi, Southern grill, American, Italian, Caribbean, Hibachi grill, you name it. The portion sizes are a little small, but considering it is all-inclusive, there is no reason you cannot order a 2nd dish. Despite the numerous restaurants, you also have the option of ordering room service, which is extremely fast. Our favorite restaurant was Mario’s (Italian restaurant).
The service aspect of the trip was just as good as everything else. Everyone working at the resort is super friendly and willing to do absolutely anything to make you happy. Again, the room service is super fast and the maids are sweethearts, personally making sure your fridge is stocked with your favorite drinks and cleaning your room as needed. It was rare to walk by someone who worked at the resort without a smile and a greeting, making you feel very welcome.
Whether you are a beach bum or not, there are so many daily activities on the resort that you most certainly will never be bored. The beach has incredibly soft sand and crystal clear turquoise water. The main pool has a full service bar and a gigantic hot tub. During our stay, we played bingo, danced to live music, and even at one point found ourselves playing beer pong. A daily itinerary is given to each room every night for the following day activities, which made it easy to know when everything was going on and where. Oh yeah, and did I mention they even have a casino?
Everything about Sandals Grande Antigua lived up to its hype. It was a positive experience and well worth the money. We have already considered booking our next Sandals trip to a different location. Sandals Grande Antigua gets two thumbs up, I recommend it to anyone looking to take a trip to the Caribbean.
